Five stars is not enough to give Kristen and her drum class. I found her class last fall and it has changed my life for the better. She is not only teaching me to drum; her classes are helping me get back into my body and rediscover musical expression that I thought I had lost many years ago to trauma. She is one of the best teachers, of anything, that I’ve ever had. Her approach is energetic and hands-on, and her deep understanding of African polyrhythm allows her to get the class rocking in no time flat. Kristen is a master at working with novices and experienced drummers alike. And along with her skills as a musician and teacher, she is a truly awesome human being. I can’t wait for the next class session to start on November 2.

Kristen is an incredible teacher. Her ability to teach to multiple levels, while providing individualized attention is incredible. Her approach is very hands on and her classes are always engaging. Her passion for rhythm and expression is contagious! Her multifaceted approach is much appreciated in conveying rhythms across varying skill levels and learning styles.

Kristen is an amazing djembe teacher for students of all levels. I started taking classess with Kristen over a year ago and continue to learn from her each class. She starts with the basics and makes every student feel comfortable in expressing themselves. Class is always fun and educational. She is one of the few djembe teachers who can lead a large class of students at many levels, and maintain control to ensure everyone stays in rhythm.

Joining Kristen’s drum class at Roda Studio in Takoma Park was just about the best thing I’ve ever done. It’s challenging, interesting, creative, musical, and so much fun! Kristen is a superb teacher (she’s a genius, in fact!) who makes every student feel welcome and encouraged. This is a terrific, growing, evolving class of wonderful people who love to drum, beginners to advanced, led by someone who truly loves to teach and share her music.
